Sanda Matei

Sanda Matei, age 64, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026.

Sanda was born on November 24, 1961, in Romania. In 1996 she immigrated to

Chicago IL to start a new life.

She immediately got involved in the Romanian community and made a lot of meaningful

friendships.

In 2007 she moved back with her family to Romania but in 2020 she made a big

decision to come back to Chicago with her 3 boys.

Sanda is survived by her loving children: Alex, Anthony and Andrei. She also leaves

behind her 3 other sisters (Florina, Doina, Viorica) and their families who she loved

very much.

Sanda will always be remembered for her kindness, warmth and wisdom. She was

always willing to help and a trustworthy person. Sanda was a person full of life that was

very courageous and fought stage 4 metastasis cancer. Even as the disease

progressed, she continued to spend time with loved ones.

While her battle with cancer has ended, Sanda’s spirit, love, and courage will live on in

the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Sanda’s family.

Visitation will be held 5:45 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, January 26, 2026 at the

Sts Constantine and Helen Romanian Orthodox Cathedral

Funeral Ceremony will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the

Sts Constantine and Helen Romanian Orthodox Cathedral
