Maria Racean Obituary

Maria was born in the village of Opatita, in the Timis county of Romania on February 20, 1936

She was a happy child, despite the atrocities of war that she lived through. She was an artistic soul who loved nature, flowers, animals, songs and poems, singing in the church choir from an early age. At 5 years old, she learned a hymn for the King, Trăiască Regele, and in recent years would love to sing it for her family and show that she remembered every lyric.

She was surrounded by her parents, Ioan and Maria, her sisters Victoria and Elena and many friends and relatives.

She married her husband Gheorghe and together they formed a family of 4, with her two children Sorin and Radu.

Life was not easy in a socialist country; however, she managed to keep her family fed and safe. Her husband died in 1984 and she emigrated to the USA in 1990.

She overcame the various barriers and integrated into the American society, side by side with her two sons and their families. Age and health issues took a toll on her health in the last few years and now God has taken her to his Kingdom.

She leaves behind her two sons, Sorin and Radu, daughters in law Monica and Diana and granddaughters Cassandra and Rebecca.

She was kind to everyone she met, and deeply loved her family and friends. She enjoyed singing and to her last days, always remembered the songs she learned in childhood. She was a great storyteller, recalling jokes and stories from her younger years spent in Romania. She was happiest when she was surrounded by others, sharing stories and laughter. She made strong, lasting friendships with those who lived in the building she resided in for 20 years.

She was a wonderful cook and baker. She creating sweet treats for each special occasion and comforting food for every day, including Dobos cake and delicious chicken noodle soup.

She was a loving grandmother to her granddaughters, helping take care of them in childhood and praying for them every night of their lives.

She was devoted to God, speaking of Him and praying often. She went through hardships in her life with grace and dignity, always wishing health and joy to those around her.

She will always be in our hearts. May God rest her soul in eternity!
